This episode of One Night Only was once again a combination of more than average matches, the missing storyline and a missing crowd. The crowd was not so vocal except the front row. TNA needs more voice from its fans to be a competitive industry.
Andrew Everett vs. Mandrews:
Mandrews needs to find a storyline with the Skateboard like Xavier Woods has with his Trombone. For now, I am not really sure why Mandrews brings that Skateboard. He needs to learn how to sell his passion. This was helpful for Mandrews as he got a good one-on-one match. He is a good player. He needs more exposure in the top card of X-division. The commentators were taking on Miz's comment in Talking Smack on high-flying wrestlers. The Miz in an earlier Talking Smack episode condemned how they shorten their career by taking unnecessary risks. But rest assured that neither the criticism nor the high-flying X-division matches will end soon. This is a topic to comment on. I will write something on it on a later date. The match, on the other hand, was quite technical. I am really glad for both entertainers getting more TV time. Mandrews kept on showing impressive landing skills in this match. The end segment and the part where Mandrews showed his nice move set followed by the near-3-count pin were Awesome moments of the match. The crowd kept on chanting on Earl Hebner "That was three". Earl Hebner is indeed the man to mess with. :P The performers put up a nice show. I am thrilled for Mandrews.
Sienna vs. Jade vs. Marti Bell:
This was a great triple-threat stipulation. Jade has been good. She is getting a good push which she deserves. Sienna must get freedom from her hardiness. Sienna achieved that in this match but still there are some gaps left to fill. Pre-match promo winner was Sienna. She delivered the promo greatly. Marti is still expected to better her shot-placing, falls and taunts. She must do better to survive in the Knockout division. The segment where Sienna and Marti were working together really lacked comfort and crisp. However, Sienna delivered the Silencer beautifully.
Mandrews backstage promo:
In this segment, Mandrews spoke about why high-flying is better than playing so-called safe games. He meant it literally for Andrew Everett. But it was also an answer to the Miz's criticism.
Trevor Lee vs Tyrus:
This was a fine match. Trevor Lee's style, Andrew Everett's role and Tyrus's taunts were good aspects of the match. Tyrus has been working well with his new gimmick. He still lacks some real mic skills. He needs some genuine matches too like this one.
Bromance-DJZ vs. Grado-Mahabali Shera-Eddie Edwards
The Bromance reunion during the pre-match segment was nostalgic. The promo of Grado was as usual fun. This match had two of the current champs. This shows how humble the TNA wrestlers are and this can be told for every TNA wrestlers who keep on busting off their ass day in and day out with negligible pay. Robbie E and Grado face-off, stare-off and hug-segment were remarkable. Grado and DJZ also had lots of fun during the match. Bromance's triple kick on Grado was picture-perfect. Similarly, another crazy moment was the collective-wolf cry. This match was no rubbish and all fun. Special Mention: Thanks to Grado’s dance in front of Raquel, we got to see Raquel's hurricane Rana on Grado. It was beautifully executed. :D
Eli Drake's backstage Promo:
This was awesomeness at its best. His taunted the Moose calls as the Dummy calls. I thought that I would also chant "Dummy Yeah" instead of "Moose" chants when the Moose's entrance music rings.
Bram vs. Bobby Lashley:
This match was the mitochondria of the episode with so much power condensed in it. Both entertainers performed greatly in outside the ring segments. Both of them created a couple of OMG moments too. One cannot overlook the apt use of Staircases by the wrestlers. The credit must go the creative team as well as the performers for giving such a wonderful match.
Moose's backstage promo:
Moose accepted that Eli was really an exceptional talent. There is indeed no doubt about it. Moose without "Moose" chants would not be complete. So, I changed my mind and chanted “Moose! Moose! Moose!” when he entered the ring. No one can’t argue about its surrealness.
Eli Drake's in-ring promo:
Eli tried his best to energise the crowd. Only a few people can do with the mic like E-Li Drake. :)
Eli Drake vs. Moose:
Moose's entrance was energetic with "Yeah" and "Moose" chants. I love his fan following and how powerful his entrance is. Moose's one-handed catch of Eli Drake and throwing him away: this segment showcased how powerful Moose actually was. The float-over DDT of Eli was exceptional. The match was excellent. Moose's dominant performance continued. He is getting a good push from his debut in TNA industry. I believe that TNA management will not regret pushing him. His mic skill is although not the best in TNA, he can compensate that with his moves and shot execution on any day you want.
TNA Hall of Fame 2016 Announcement:
Gail Kim is the most deserving candidate for this. I was quite happy when I learned that Gail Kim is the hall of fame of this year for the first time. She is the idol of beauty, consistency, experience, humbleness and responsibility. The chants from the crowd of "Thank You Gail" was not over-rated. She deserved that. Gail is actually the Game in all of the women's pro wrestling industry. Gail Kim rocks.
Laurel Van Ness vs. Gail Kim:
I liked Laurel giving her best in the pre-match promo segment. She has pro wrestling blood in her. The crowd booed her mic segment and pro wrestling skills. She will be a good heel in future. Laurel was good at delivering fluent moves, taunting during the match and taking control of the match. However, the commentary was horrible as usual... :( Gail needs to stay in TNA as long as possible. She is the best person to teach new knockouts on how to control/dictate the match.
Bram vs. James Storm:
We got our second Bram-match of the night. It meant a power-packed match was due. It was a slow-paced mat-based match. The beer-drinking segment was funny. Bram's Crossbody and the cow boy's Hurricane Rana from the top turnbuckle was near perfect.
EC3 backstage promo:
EC3's taunts in the backstage promo were impactful and pin-pointed at the Broken Hardy. He notably customised Matt Hardy's "Wonderful" to newly branded "Delightful".
EC3 vs. Broken Matt (Main Event):
Matt introduced EC3 pretty well in the pre-match segment. EC3’s re-entrance as Broken EC3 was the best set up for a Broken World Match. WOW! Brian Hebner was giving perfect expression. I have always been his fan. He has learnt a lot from his father and delivers his skills in an awe-inspiring way every time. EC3 and Matt did a great mirror segment in the pre-match segment. It was pure entertainment. During the match, EC3 did a beautiful Ric Flair-style free fall. Broken Ethan kept on copying the Broken Matt perfectly for the whole match. The most surreal moment of the match: Matt, EC3 and Hebner, all three of them did the Undertaker-way of breaking double count making it an amazing break of triple count out. Deadmen Rose. Chokeslam followed by a pin, EC3’s tribute to the Undertaker, was another sexy improvisation by EC3 or the writers. Whoever decided that segment, I applaud them.
TNA's monthly package One Night Only still requires some storylines and earlier telecast. Nevertheless, it produced few outstanding matches. So, let’s just hope that TNA doesn’t go bankrupt and they keep on creating this broken brilliance as per their convenience.
